What Kind of Church is This?

First Christian Church is an independent, non-denominational Christian church. That simply means we are not affiliated with any denomination or outside governing body. We believe Jesus Christ is the head of the church. We believe that Bible instructs us the church to be overseen by a team of Elders who are part of the local church congregation.

We are a part of the Restoration Movement. In short, this is a movement of like-minded churches who are committed to walking out the Great Commission and pursuing unity in the body of Christ. What We Believe

We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and each possesses all the attributes of God. (Matthew 5:16, 45; 6:1, 4, 8, 9; James 1:17; John 1:1; 4:24; 14:9, 16-20; Genesis 1:2; 2 Peter 1:21)

We believe in God the Father, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe and everything in it. (Gen. 1:1, 26-27; Ps. 90:2; Matt. 28:19; Acts 17:24-28; 2 Cor. 13:14; Hebrews 11:3)

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is one with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is our Savior, who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on a cross for all sin, and was raised from the grave after three days to demonstrate His defeat of sin and death. He ascended into heaven and will return to earth to reign as our powerful King. (Matt. 1:22-23; John 1:1-5, 14, 3:16; Heb. 4:14-15; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; Col. 2:9-10; 1 Tim. 6:14-15; 1 John 4:9; 2 Peter 3:18)

We believe the Holy Spirit is one with God the Father and Jesus Christ. Those who accept Christ as their Savior will receive the Holy Spirit to live inside them. The Holy Spirit serves as our comforter, guide and advocate. The Holy Spirit is given to Christians and provides guidance in living, an understanding of the Bible, and prayerful intercession. (Acts 1:7-8; John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Romans 8:26-27; Gal. 5:25; 1 Cor. 2:12, 3:16, 6:19; Eph. 1:13; 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Tim. 1:14)

We believe the Bible is the holy and inspired Word of God. It is the foundation of our faith, our ultimate authority on Christian beliefs, and a guide to living. The Bible is divinely inspired by God, without error, given to man so that we may know and understand the truth of God and his love. We accept the Word of God is the final authority on all matters of faith and practice. (Matt. 5:18, 24:35; Mark 12:36; John 14:26, 16:12-15; Romans 15:4; Acts 1:16; 1 Cor. 2:12-13; 2 Tim. 3:16; Heb. 4:12; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Ps. 12:6, 119:105;)

We believe all people are made in the image of God and were created to live the adventure of following Jesus Christ. Although we, as people, have tremendous potential for good, we also have the freedom to do evil. Our disobedience toward God is called “sin” and that separates all humanity from God. All mankind is lost and without hope apart from Jesus. (Gen. 1:27; Isa. 53:6, 59:1-2; Acts 4:12; Rom. 3:23; Ps. 139:13-16; Col. 2:13-15)

We believe salvation is a free gift from God provided by Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, and is received through faith. It is not something that can be purchased or earned. It is available to everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. That faith is expressed through repentance of sin and baptism by immersion. (Matt. 26:28; John 3:16; Acts 2:38, 4:12; Rom. 5:1-2, 9-10, 6:1-7. 23, 10:10; Gal. 3:27; Eph. 2:8-10; Phil. 2:11; Col. 2:12; 1 Peter 1:18-19, 3:21; 1 John 1:7, 4:15; )

We believe people were created to exist forever. Every person will either exist eternally in union with God in heaven through following Jesus Christ or be eternally separated from God in hell due to refusing to follow Him. (John 14:2-3; John 14:6; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; 2 Thess. 1:6-10; Rev. 20:11-15)
